Color of Magic Die Reise des Zauberers 1 - auf Deutsch ganzer filmTeatime was dreadful. He sounded like a man from England trying to be American. And maybe it was part of his character in the book but he kept correcting people with different pronunciations of his name "tee-uh-tar-may", "tee-uh-tie-may", "tee-uh-tar-mee", "tee-uh-tie-mee".
The movie did feel rushed which would make sense if things were indeed left out from the book but I still liked it enough to watch it twice this Christmas.

I was also amused to see that she provided the voice for the Death of Rats credited as Dorckey Hellmice The only slight downside for me was that some of the sets and special effects were a bit cheap-and-cheerful, but the storyline and acting was strong enough for this not to matter much.
Do make sure that you buy the 2-disc version of this dvd as disc 2 has some really worthwhile content, including Death's whirlwind tour of Discworld; there are also some nice contributions from Terry Pratchett, and it was great to see him in a cameo role at the end of the film as the toy maker.
Despite the fact it was made for TV on Sky , this is a relatively big budget production with decent special effects and a stellar cast including heavyweights David Jason, Joss Akland, David Warner and Ian Richardson.
It's pretty funny at times and tells the story well, capturing both the humour and seriousness of Discworld admirably. The two 90 minutes parts of the film are squeezed onto one DVD, but picture quality is good even when upscaled.
The second DVD has some worthwhile extras including a 1 hour "making of" and a collection of 12 short Discworld introductions that Sky ran in the weeks ahead of initial broadcast.
For the Pratchett fan, these extras are especially good as P'Terry himself features heavily with help from other Discworld experts like Stephen Briggs.

An excellent television production with a degree of depth that rivals most of the commercial film industry's formulaic, mindless, shallow, moronic 'dialogue'-ridden and 'product placement'-polluted fodder.
Good family fun with philosophical humour as well as basic visual fun; can be watched on several levels. In two episodes totalling around 3 hours which allows enough time to get involved in the film - not like the 1hr 20min standards Hollywood commercial output.

Joss Acland as Ridcully was not the character I expected from the books, and Marc Warren as Mr Teatime - despite a talented performance in other respects - had chosen or been directed to play the part in an American accent New England maybe?
Hard to be sure. His dark glass eye was too obvious less spooky than the misty grey one described in the book , and looked annoyingly like a teddy-bear eye.
But his acting was fine, so he pretty much overcomes it. This is the first of the Discworld series attempted as a TV movie - so it's hard not to give them full credit for having a serious go with generally good casting and enough time to develop this substantial book into a complete movie.
Recommended if you enjoy the Discworld series, and it would not hurt to have read the book or know the plot. If you are more into characters like some other reviewers and can just let the plot wash over you, it might suit a very relaxed newcomer to Discworld.
We only bought the 1-disk edition, but other reviewers recommend the 2-disk version as a better buy. Really enjoyed this, the only problem I had is it is on German, but you can change it to play in English.

I hope it will become yours, too. Especially after children claim they don't believe anymore. That is the perfect time to introduce them to Hogfather.
They will then understand why it is important to believe. There's a certain limit of things you can do when handling fantasy on a budget, but I really loved this story.
I loved the main character and her clueless grandfather, Death. I loved the parallel reality of Christmas.
I loved the origin of the story. It was a lot of fun to watch, especially when Teatime dies. It's unfortunate that I need to give this a one star review.
The story is wonderful and the production first class. However, the encoding of this copy on amazon streaming is awful. It is jumpy and pixelated, even for a standard def copy.
My samsung HD tv generally has no trouble doing upscaling. Suspenseful, unexpected twists and turns, wry humor, interesting characters, despite their being somewhat odd.
The Hogfather is a two part television movie, based on the book by Terry Pratchett. It is a wonderful holiday movie that takes place on the night before Hogswatch, a holiday very similar to our Christmas.
The movie held my attention and I enjoyed it. I have watched it many times and discover something new each time. You need to buy Season 1 and Season 2 to see the whole thing.
The best Prachett adaptation I've seen, magical, funny, dark. If you love the books, you'll like this; if you don't, this adaptation stand alone.
