It can't be THAT hard to figure this out! WAY scarier than the Vatican Tapes:. Generally speaking, I love horror movies, and especially horror books.
My oldest daughter told me this was terrifying, so when she came home for Thanksgiving, we watched it pretty late at night there's something about watching a horror movie during the day that just isn't cool , and I was hoping for the kind of film that left me wanting to leave the lights on all night, Bible tucked under my pillow, and actually saying a prayer or two before bed.
Not so much. It had some creepier elements - the upside down eyeballs sort of in a similar vein to the backwards crab walk in the director's cut of The Exorcist and a few other little things here and there that were slightly chilling, but overall, it didn't leave me frightened or needing to leave the lights on all night.
It was a slow moving film with a mediocre cast. I kept hoping things would pick up or something legitimiately scary would happen.
Obviously this is not a big Hollywood production and to attempt to compare it to those films namely, The Exorcist is just silly and looking to be difficult for the sake of being difficult.
I thought the acting was fair to excellent, the storyline was good but this movie really shines with the twist of an ending.
If you're expecting The Exorcist you'll be sorely disappointed but if you watch this movie with an open mind and watch it for the sake of it's own story then I think you'll enjoy it.
There are some parts, particularly the ending, that are thought provoking and could lead to some interesting conversations if you and your friends are into philosophical convos.
The movie was okay. Glad I got it free on Prime vs paying for it like I almost did. I am really easy going with Horror movies as I love many of them and I love a lot that get bad reviews so for me this was one I don't see myself ever watching again.
The acting was decent, the story could have been a lot better and there was definitely potential here but fell short.
I would recommend to just see it if you are a Prime member but I wouldn't sink any money into it. Those of you looking for a film like The Exorcist, you won't find it here.

When a young woman becomes possessed a priest gets permission to perform an exorcism, but it's soon revealed that they're not dealing with an ordinary demon.
And, the possession is fairly well-done, delivering all the standard fare; body twisting, shaking objects, prayers in Latin, etc.
But the plot is paper thin with little character developed, and it gets batshit crazy at the end.
For those who enjoy supernatural thrillers The Vatican Tapes will do, but there's nothing original or compelling about it.

I wouldn't call the latter a great film, it's good at best, but it does the best job at portraying a fairly exciting, and terrifying to some, exorcism.
With that said, this movie isn't as horrible as one might have expected from reading the reviews. I don't mean to suggest that this is a good film, or even an average one, but it does a better job than one would imagine.
I think a lot of that, honestly, has to do with Olivia Dudley's commitment to the role. Olivia isn't exactly a high-profile actress, at the moment, but I think she does a really solid job with what is, essentially, every exorcism film you've ever seen.
Honestly, the film's scripting is a little goofy and silly, to the point where it's actually laughable in some scenes.
I think that's part of the reason I didn't hate this film as much. I realize that some of this stuff is very real to some people, but the film has such a self-serious tone that it ends up being comical in a lot of scenes.
So that makes the film a little more tolerable, honestly. If you think this movie is terrible, which it probably is if broken down, then at least you can get some chuckles out of it.
I will say that the climactic exorcism is actually fairly decent, all things considered. I think it does a good enough job. I do think that it gets a little goofy as the exorcism progresses.
Like it escalates accordingly, but it all ends up feeling a bit silly by the end. I mean the ending definitely seems to set up a sequel, that I doubt we'll ever get, due to this film not being exactly successful, but I thought the ending was solid and it fit within the context of the story the film was trying to tell.
It wasn't out of left field, like the ending to The Last Exorcism, which was horrendous. I wouldn't call this a good film, in the least, it's below average at best, but it surpasses expectations thanks to a committed performance from Olivia Dudley and its self-serious tone leads to some laughs at its expense.
I wouldn't exactly recommend it, but you can certainly watch worse films. I realize that that's not a glowing recommendation, but if you've got a free movie rental from Redbox and you've seen every film they have, then you can use it on this and you won't be too pissed off.

Although given dire critical reviews, I quite enjoyed this film. This is basically a possession story, and much of it has been done many times before, but I found the acting to be convincing and the pacing snappy enough to keep me interested.
There are also quite a few characters in supporting roles which add further interest but don't distract from the core story. The Blu-ray disk has good picture quality in daylight scenes but much of the production is shot simulating security vision with corresponding quality.
Audio allows for good voice quality and some good use of the surround channels. It's a decent horror, not particularly scary, but keeps you interested til the end.
Which is why it is in my blu ray collection. Acting is decent, story is interesting, and it's re-watchable. Worth havingin your blu ray collection for sure.
One person found this helpful. I enjoyed this film very much. It certainly owed quite a bit to The Exorcist and The Omen but it nevertheless delivers a tense story, and its being shot in a found footage style added to its feeling of authenticity.
